Judy Sheindlin is ending her 30-year on-camera courtroom run while moving behind the scenes to produce her son’s new series, ‘Adam’s Law.’
Judy Sheindlin is bringing her three-decade run in front of television cameras to a close. The courtroom personality known worldwide as Judge Judy announced that she is retiring from on-camera work, while making clear that she plans to remain active as a producer.
Sheindlin shared the decision during a Wednesday appearance on Good Morning America alongside her son, Adam Levy. Rather than leaving television entirely, she is shifting her attention behind the scenes and helping guide Adam’s Law, the new syndicated court show over which Levy presides.
A television courtroom era winds down
The original Judge Judy premiered in 1996 and ran for 25 seasons before production ended in 2021. Its brisk cases, sharp exchanges and highly recognizable host helped make the program a daytime fixture and influenced a long line of courtroom shows.
Sheindlin quickly returned with Judy Justice, which launched on Amazon’s Freevee service in 2021 and later became available through Prime Video. The current series is scheduled to release its finale on October 22, closing the latest chapter of her work from the bench.
Her departure is framed as a change in role, not a full retirement. Sheindlin said she still intends to be creative, with Adam’s Law at the center of her producing slate. The show premiered in national syndication on September 14, positioning Levy as the next member of the family to lead a televised courtroom.
One more celebration is coming
CBS is also marking the milestone with the 90-minute special Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable. The anniversary program is set to air September 22 and stream through Paramount+, offering a retrospective on a franchise that remained part of American daytime television for 30 years.
For viewers, the announcement means the familiar face of televised justice is leaving regular on-camera duties. For Sheindlin, however, the next act remains firmly connected to the genre she helped define—only now from the producer’s chair.
