Nia Long received the Hollywood Walk of Fame’s 2,857th star as Snoop Dogg, family and colleagues celebrated her career in Los Angeles.
Nia Long has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, adding a permanent Hollywood Boulevard tribute to a career that has stretched across film and television for more than three decades. The September 16 ceremony honored Long in the Motion Pictures category with the landmark’s 2,857th star.
Snoop Dogg and “Michael” producer Graham King appeared as guest speakers, while Variety correspondent Angelique Jackson served as emcee. Long’s family, including her mother and two sons, also attended the dedication.
A celebration rooted in cultural impact
Snoop’s remarks focused on the place Long has held in Black popular culture. He highlighted her performances in “Boyz n the Hood,” “Friday,” “Love Jones,” “Soul Food” and “The Best Man,” arguing that audiences had recognized her star power long before it was marked on the sidewalk. He arrived wearing a jacket decorated with images from different points in her career.
Long answered with warmth, recalling their friendship of more than 25 years and thanking him for consistently checking on her family. Their professional connection includes her appearance in Snoop Dogg’s 2015 “California Roll” music video, which also featured Stevie Wonder.
More than three decades on screen
Long emerged as a widely recognized performer in the early 1990s, building a body of work that moved easily between comedy, romance, drama and television. Along with the films celebrated during the ceremony, her credits include “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Big Momma’s House,” “Third Watch,” “Empire” and “The Best Man: The Final Chapters.”
Her latest major film role is Katherine Jackson in the Michael Jackson biopic “Michael.” She has also wrapped the Netflix romantic drama “Don’t Ever Wonder,” which reunites her with “Love Jones” co-star Larenz Tate, and is attached as an executive producer.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which administers the Walk of Fame, framed the honor around Long’s ability to create memorable characters and connect with audiences over decades. The ceremony turned that long-running relationship into a visible landmark—and gave peers, relatives and fans a chance to celebrate the work behind it.
