FX has renewed American Horror Story for Season 14 ahead of the current season’s finale, keeping the long-running anthology alive.

American Horror Story will return for Season 14, extending the long-running FX anthology beyond its current revival season. The renewal arrives shortly before the Season 13 finale, which is scheduled to air Thursday, October 29, on FX.

FX keeps its signature horror anthology alive

The network has not yet revealed a subtitle, story, premiere date or cast for the next installment. Because the series resets its setting and characters from season to season, the renewal confirms the franchise’s future without giving away what its next nightmare will look like.

Season 13 was designed as a celebration of the show’s history. Its ensemble brought back familiar names including Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe and Leslie Grossman. TVLine noted that any of the current stars could potentially return, but no Season 14 casting has been confirmed.

A comeback season builds momentum

The decision follows a strong start for the current installment. Variety reported that the Season 13 premiere drew 4 million views across its first four days, which FX described as the best streaming performance for a premiere in the series’ history. That opening carried extra weight after the show’s three-year break following the 2023 debut of Season 12, Delicate.

Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, American Horror Story premiered in 2011 and has become FX’s longest-running hour-long series. Its rotating format has allowed the franchise to move through haunted houses, asylums, witch covens, hotels and other stand-alone worlds while regularly bringing performers back in new roles.

The immediate focus remains the Season 13 finale, while the creative direction of Season 14 stays under wraps. The renewal nevertheless gives fans a firm answer about the show’s future: FX and Hulu are keeping the anthology in their lineup for another round, even if its setting and returning faces remain the next mystery.
