Brad Pitt returns as Cliff Booth in David Fincher’s 1977-set crime story, opening in Imax before its Netflix debut in December.

Brad Pitt is back in Cliff Booth’s boots, but the laid-back stuntman has a very different job in the first full trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. Netflix’s follow-up moves the character into a 1977 Los Angeles crime story, eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

A new chapter for Cliff Booth

The film reunites Pitt with the role that earned him an Academy Award, while placing him under the direction of David Fincher for the first time since The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Quentin Tarantino, who created Booth, wrote the screenplay. The trailer’s release gives audiences their clearest look yet at how that handoff between two distinctive filmmakers will work.

Booth is no longer making a living as a stuntman. Instead, he has become a fixer for powerful Hollywood figures. The story begins when talent agent Karen Crosby, played by Elizabeth Debicki, contacts him on behalf of television star Charlie Peters, played by Scott Caan. That assignment draws him into a circle that includes Charlie’s wife Toni, played by Carla Gugino, and athlete-turned-actor Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

The setup also introduces the Verdusco brothers, portrayed by Matt Groove and JB Tadena, as gangsters stirring up trouble across the city. It marks a tonal shift from the old-Hollywood fantasy surrounding Booth’s first appearance toward a more direct blend of crime, ambition and show-business maneuvering.

Netflix gives the film an Imax window

The release plan is nearly as notable as the creative team. The movie is scheduled to open exclusively in Imax theaters on November 25 for a two-week engagement before arriving on Netflix on December 23. TheWrap described it as Netflix’s first movie to receive a global Imax release, giving the project a theatrical showcase before its streaming debut.

For Pitt, the film is both a return to a celebrated character and a chance to show what became of Booth after his partnership with actor Rick Dalton. For Fincher and Tarantino, it is a rare collaboration built around an established character rather than an entirely new world. The trailer now puts the focus on whether this older, professionally reinvented Booth can navigate a Hollywood that has changed around him.
