Brandon Sklenar plays a former rodeo cowboy searching for his kidnapped daughter in Paramount’s January 2027 thriller The Rescue.

Brandon Sklenar is heading into the mountains for a high-stakes search in the first trailer for The Rescue. Paramount has set the action thriller for a January 29, 2027 theatrical release, putting the 1923 actor at the center of a story about a father trying to recover his kidnapped daughter.

A cowboy, a dog and a dangerous pursuit

Sklenar plays a former rodeo cowboy whose daughter is abducted for ransom. Rather than wait for the situation to resolve, he sets out to find her with the family dog at his side. The trailer frames him as a man who knows the remote terrain and is prepared to confront the people holding her.

The premise leans into a stripped-down rescue narrative, but the supporting cast gives the project a strong lineup of familiar genre performers. Hassie Harrison plays the cowboy’s former wife, a country music star, while Josh Lucas, Tim Blake Nelson, Josh Duhamel, Austin Amelio, Spencer Treat Clark, Nick Searcy and Lorelei Olivia Mote also appear.

The team behind the thriller

Potsy Ponciroli directed the film after making the western Old Henry and the crime comedy Greedy People. John Fusco wrote the screenplay. His earlier credits include Young Guns, Thunderheart and Crossroads, giving the project a writer with extensive experience in western and action storytelling.

The film was produced by Shannon Houchins, Cliff Roberts and Ponciroli, with Down Home, Hideout Pictures, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media listed among the companies behind it. The newly released footage emphasizes snowy landscapes, pursuit scenes and the bond between the missing girl and her dog.

For Sklenar, The Rescue continues a run of leading roles following Drop and The Housemaid. He is also attached to the upcoming action thriller F.A.S.T., which reunites him with filmmaker Ben Richardson and producer Taylor Sheridan. Before that project arrives, The Rescue will test his draw as the sole determined hero of a theatrical action story built around family stakes rather than a larger franchise.
