Charli xcx is reported to have a cameo in Martin Scorsese’s Gothic drama What Happens at Night alongside DiCaprio and Lawrence.

Charli xcx is continuing her rapid move into film with a reported cameo in Martin Scorsese’s next feature, What Happens at Night. Variety reported that the musician will appear alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in the Gothic psychological drama, although details of her role remain under wraps.

The casting report has not yet been formally confirmed by Charli, Apple or StudioCanal. Representatives for those parties did not respond to requests for comment cited in the original coverage, so the size and nature of her appearance are still unknown.

A Gothic story with a major ensemble

Based on Peter Cameron’s novel, What Happens at Night follows an American married couple who travel to a remote European town to adopt a baby. Their stay at a strange hotel and encounters with its unusual guests gradually unsettle both their mission and their understanding of themselves.

Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson and Jared Harris are also attached to the ensemble. Scorsese’s latest project reunites him with DiCaprio after Killers of the Flower Moon, while pairing the director with Lawrence for the first time in a leading feature. No release date has been announced.

Charli’s screen career keeps expanding

The reported cameo arrives during a particularly active period for Charli as an actor. Her recent film work includes the Warsaw-set drama Erupcja, the fantasy romance 100 Nights of Hero, Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex and Cathy Yan’s art-world thriller The Gallerist. She also played a heightened version of herself in The Moment, a mockumentary built around the cultural aftershocks of her Brat era.

Scorsese already has a visible place in Charli’s current creative world. He appeared with John Cale and Marc Jacobs on the cover of her album Music, Fashion, Film, representing cinema alongside figures from music and fashion. A cameo in What Happens at Night would turn that symbolic connection into an on-screen collaboration.

For now, the project remains a carefully guarded production. Charli’s reported addition brings pop-culture momentum to an already formidable cast, but audiences will have to wait for official material to learn how she fits into the film’s unsettling story.
