The first ‘Death Stranding Isolations’ trailer introduces a hand-drawn anime with new characters, arriving on Disney+ in 2027.

Death Stranding Isolations has released its first teaser, offering an early look at the hand-drawn animated series that will expand Hideo Kojima’s post-apocalyptic universe. The original story is scheduled to stream exclusively on Disney+ and other Disney services in 2027.

Kojima Productions presented the footage during its 10th-anniversary event in Tokyo. Rather than adapting the games directly, the series will follow a new group of characters and explore lives shaped by the same catastrophe that blurred the boundary between the living and the dead.

A separate story in a familiar world

The story takes place in North America after Sam Porter Bridges reconnects the continent through the Chiral Network. That achievement begins a period of rebuilding, but the renewed connections also create unexpected consequences for people who choose paths outside Sam’s organization.

The teaser focuses on a young girl troubled by visions of tar and the dead. The wider cast includes an older man with an unconventional way of connecting people, a female soldier trapped in recurring conflict and a boy furious at the conditions of his life. The girl’s preference for isolation is challenged when chance encounters push her into an unfamiliar world.

The creative team behind the anime

Takayuki Sano is directing the project, with Tow Ubukata handling series composition and the screenplay. E&H Production is producing the traditional 2D animation. Sano’s credits include work connected to Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen 0, while Ubukata’s writing career spans novels, games, manga and animation.

The project is one of several screen expansions planned around Death Stranding, but Isolations is being positioned as its own entry rather than a retelling. That distinction gives the production room to use the games’ central ideas—connection, grief and solitude—without relying on the same heroes.

No exact premiere date has been announced beyond 2027. For now, the first trailer establishes the visual approach, the new ensemble and a story that examines what happens after a divided world is linked again.
