Jay-Z brings Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Giggs to his first London solo headline show in more than a decade during the Jay-Z30 tour.
Jay-Z turned the first London stop of his anniversary tour into a celebration of hip-hop history, bringing Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean together for a surprise performance at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The pair joined him for “Ready or Not,” giving the crowd an unexpected mini-reunion built around the Fugees’ 1990s classic.
The September 4 concert was Jay-Z’s first solo headline show in the United Kingdom in more than a decade. It opened a two-night run in London and formed part of the Jay-Z30 tour, which marks 30 years since the release of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt.
Jay-Z fills the London stage with special guests
Hill and Jean were not the evening’s only additions. South London rapper Giggs appeared after Jay-Z acknowledged him from the stage, while Idris Elba and DJ Khaled also joined the event. The guest list connected New York rap history with performers closely associated with London’s music and entertainment scene.
Jay-Z’s own set stretched beyond two hours and moved through several eras of his catalog. Songs reported from the show included “99 Problems,” “Empire State of Mind” and “Dead Presidents,” balancing major crossover records with tracks tied to the career being celebrated.
Beyoncé watched from a stadium box on her 45th birthday but did not perform. Jay-Z mentioned the occasion during the concert and dedicated “Forever Young” to her, creating another crowd moment without turning the night into an onstage collaboration.
The Jay-Z30 tour keeps its reunion format
The London appearances continue a pattern established during three Yankee Stadium concerts in July. Those New York shows featured a large rotation of guests from across Jay-Z’s career, including Beyoncé, Blue Ivy, Rihanna, Eminem, Nas, Alicia Keys and Usher.
In London, the reunion of Hill and Jean carried particular weight because “Ready or Not” remains one of the Fugees’ defining recordings. Their arrival also reinforced the tour’s wider idea: Jay-Z is presenting his catalog not as an isolated retrospective, but as part of a network of artists and scenes that helped shape three decades of hip-hop.
The second Tottenham Hotspur Stadium show is scheduled for the same weekend, closing the tour’s two-date London run.
