Kim Kardashian receives a symbolic €1 civil award tied to the 2016 Paris robbery, emphasizing recognition rather than compensation.
Kim Kardashian has received the symbolic award she requested in a civil case connected to the 2016 Paris robbery that left her bound, gagged and held at gunpoint. A French court awarded the reality star €1, roughly $1.15, on September 15, placing recognition and accountability ahead of financial compensation.
Her longtime friend and former stylist Simone Harouche, who was in the building during the robbery, received the same symbolic amount. In a joint statement carried by entertainment outlets citing the Associated Press, the two women said the ruling acknowledged them as victims and allowed them to continue moving forward after a deeply traumatic experience.
Why Kardashian requested only one euro
The deliberately small award was not meant to measure the harm caused by the attack. Kardashian and Harouche framed their request as a way to secure an official acknowledgment of what happened rather than pursue a large payout. Their statement thanked the French court and the people who supported them through the legal process.
The ruling follows the criminal trial tied to the October 2016 robbery. Kardashian and Harouche both testified in that proceeding, which ended with eight people convicted of crimes connected to the attack. Kardashian had been staying in a private Paris residence during Fashion Week when assailants entered her room and stole jewelry worth more than $6 million, including an engagement ring.
The robbery changed her public life
Kardashian has repeatedly described the attack as a turning point. She withdrew from social media for several months afterward and later said it transformed her relationship with possessions, jewelry and personal security. Her account has remained focused on the fear of not returning home to her children.
The civil judgment also included larger awards for other parties affected by the crime. Reports said the hotel received €50,000, while a receptionist who was working that night received €109,516. Those figures underscore why Kardashian’s €1 request was designed as a symbolic gesture rather than ordinary damages.
Nearly a decade after the robbery, the latest decision does not erase the ordeal. It does, however, give Kardashian and Harouche the formal recognition they said they wanted from the French justice system.
