Norman Reedus joins James Marsden in Apple TV’s Disavowed

Norman Reedus has joined the series-regular cast of Apple TV’s upcoming thriller Disavowed, placing the longtime Walking Dead star opposite James Marsden in a new espionage drama. Reedus’s character remains under wraps, but the casting adds another recognizable lead to the project.

A global hunt with a personal cost

The series follows Brad Griffin, a veteran CIA case officer played by Marsden. Griffin is dismissed while pursuing an elusive assassin blamed for killing one of his colleagues. Shut out of the intelligence world, he chooses to continue the chase and pursue a $15 million federal bounty on the suspect.

Apple ordered the project in May from creators Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, the writing team whose credits include Iron Man and Uncharted. The company described the show as an ongoing action thriller rather than a limited series, leaving room for the pursuit and its consequences to unfold beyond a single season.

Michelle MacLaren will direct the first two episodes and serve as an executive producer. Her television résumé includes work on Breaking Bad and The Morning Show. Tom Spezialy, Marsden, Marcum and Holloway are also among the executive producers, with Apple Studios and Blue Marble Pictures producing.

Reedus moves beyond Daryl Dixon

For Reedus, Disavowed creates a major television commitment outside the role most closely associated with his career. He played Daryl Dixon across all 11 seasons of AMC’s The Walking Dead and continued the character in the spinoff The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.

The secrecy around his new role gives the casting announcement an extra question: Reedus could enter Griffin’s hunt as an ally, a rival or someone connected to the assassin. Apple and the producers have not disclosed production dates or a premiere window, so the project remains in the early stage between its series order and its eventual arrival on the service.

What is clear is the creative shape: Marsden at the center of a disgraced-agent story, MacLaren establishing the visual tone, and Reedus bringing experience from one of television’s most durable action franchises.
