Paris Hilton says daughter London chose to dress as Chip after critics questioned the family’s Beauty and the Beast Halloween costumes.
Paris Hilton has answered criticism of her family’s Beauty and the Beast Halloween costumes, saying her two-year-old daughter London chose to dress as Chip rather than Princess Belle.
Hilton says the children picked their characters
The family costume placed Hilton in Belle’s gold ball gown, while her husband Carter Reum appeared as the Beast. Their three-year-old son Phoenix dressed as Lumière, and London wore a Chip costume inspired by the enchanted teacup from the Disney story.
Some social media users questioned why Hilton took the princess role instead of giving it to her daughter. Hilton responded in the comments of an Instagram Reel discussing the costumes. She said Beauty and the Beast is one of her children’s favorite movies and that London specifically asked to be Chip because the character is her favorite.
Her explanation reframed the coordinated photoshoot as a family choice rather than a parent assigning the less prominent costumes to the children. It also offered a reminder that young children often identify with animated side characters in ways adults may not expect.
A carefully built family Halloween look
Hilton completed her Belle transformation with a brown wig, a gold gown decorated with red rose details and matching gloves. Reum wore a Beast mask with furry gloves and boots, while the children’s costumes completed the group theme.
The reality star and entrepreneur shared the family images on Instagram on October 26. The criticism followed soon after, prompting her direct response the next day. She did not suggest the family planned to change the costumes; instead, she emphasized that the final lineup reflected what her daughter actually wanted.
The moment quickly became a familiar kind of celebrity-parenting debate, with viewers interpreting a polished social media image without knowing the conversation behind it. Hilton’s comment supplied that missing context and kept the focus on London’s enthusiasm for Chip.
For Hilton, who regularly turns Halloween into a highly produced fashion moment, the matching costumes were designed as a full family tableau. Her response makes clear that the princess, candlestick and teacup assignments were not simply about who held the starring role—they were about each family member choosing a place in a story the children enjoy.
